Week 3

Due to some inclement weather conditions and the holidays, this week was relatively low-key, although did manage to continue making progress in my mileage increase. I'll be shooting for a bit more quality next week, as everything this week was basically an easy run.

I've begun to do 8 strides after almost every run. Rather than go the usual mile pace on each, I've decided to go "easy" on 1,2,3,5,7,8 meaning about 6-6:30 pace to work on form, foot strike, and efficiency. I go mile or sub-mile pace on 3 and 6 to remind my legs they need to be able to run fast at any given time! The rest is usually 15-30 seconds, so they go by quickly.

Week 2

It was a pretty eventful week. Began on Sunday by volunteering at the Jingle Bell Jog 8k which was a lot of fun although conditions were cold and rainy. Started off by running the course, then proceeded to the ~1.5 mile mark to direct the runners onto a small bike path. It was great to be able to volunteer at a race after running them for so many years--this is definitely something I plan to do again in the future.

Monday was also exciting as I ran after work from RnJ and decided to pick up the pace a bit and was surprised with my fitness. I completed the 6 mile run in 38:49 dipping under 6 for the last mile. Its not much, but its a start.

The rest of the week involved three more easy runs. I've decided to leave the watch at home for most easy runs for the time being--and it definitely helped me relax this week!

I have successfully completed my first week of training--3 runs on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Kept everything pretty easy between 5 and 7 miles and in the 7 flat to 7:20 range.

Getting Started

I'll be using this blog as my running log for the spring of 2010. I'll be doing things a bit differently during this block of training to try out a few new strategies and attempt to jump start my post-college running as the fall was not too promising. In the beginning I'll be going week-by-week as I build up during my base phase but eventually I'll get more detailed when I'm in the meat of my training. Today was my first day of training--an easy 6 miler on the Vassar College Farm with Johanna. I'm very excited to get back into it!
